Howard Baker Brown, 82, of Lexington Park, MD passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026 at Hospice House of St. Mary's.

He was born on August 10, 1943 in Baltimore, MD to the late Walter and Lydia (nee: Burbank) Brown.

Howard was raised in Baltimore, MD and is a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and a 1966 graduate of University of Maryland – College Park, with a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering. He grew up sailing with his parents, and developed an affinity for the water. As a young man, he and his brother Bob, bought a Hobie Cat, and continued to enjoy sailing together for many years. He spent his entire career employed at a mechanical engineer with the Department of Defense, beginning in Crystal City and later transferring to Patuxent River Naval Air Station where he retired after many years of dedicated workmanship.

On June 21, 1986 he married Sandra C. Brown in Leonardtown, MD and they celebrated over 39 wonderful years together. Howard was a skilled wood worker and enjoyed this hobby for many of his adult years, making pieces for the family home. In 2004 he began volunteering at CareNet Pregnancy Center where he inspected and repaired baby furniture until 2020 when COVID ended volunteer activities. He and his wife loved to travel, and have been to many of the national parks, travelled across the United States three times to Utah, and visited every state except North Dakota. He also served as a chairperson organizing weekly Bridge games at Cedar Lane Apartments and as the volunteer librarian for Lexington Park Baptist Church, where was an active parishioner.

Howard is survived by his loving wife, Sandy, children, Amy Rose Filardo (Michael) of Baltimore, MD and Nicholas Scott Brown of Laurel, MD; step-son, David Bradley Rust of Park City, UT; sister, Joyce Layman of Baltimore, MD; brother, Robert "Bob" Brown (Karen) of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren: Jacob Rust, Andrew Rust, Thomas Rust, Cassie Lynn Brown, Kili Rust, Nathaniel Rust, Robert Filardo, and Samuel Filardo and an extended network of friends and family. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his step-son, Devin McKay Rust.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated by Pastor Chris McCombs on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at Lexington Park Baptist Church, 46855 S. Shangri-La Drive, Lexington Park, MD 20653. Interment will be private.
