Mr. McPhaul was a retired DC Metropolitan Policeman. Following his retirement in 1967, he owned his own barber shop. In his retirement, he also managed the barber shops at McDill Air Force Base, Tampa, FL. He stopped working at the age of 77 with the onset of Alzheimer's Disease. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. He was also a life member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge in Washington, D.C., and was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waldorf, MD.

He was the son of the late Neil C. McPhaul and the late Mattie M. Ayers.

He is predeceased by his parents and one sister, Gladys Brvenik.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Bowley McPhaul, one son, Wade C. (Mary) McPhaul of Brandywine, MD, two daughters, Margaret A. (John) Faasen of Waldorf, MD and Joan D. McPhaul of Tampa, FL, one brother, Neil (Marguerite) McPhaul of Port Orange, FL, three sisters, Dorothy (Bill) Edmonds of Port Orange, FL, Ruby Grubbs of Frederick, MD, and Alma (Maurice) Byrd of Albuquerque, NM, eight grandchildren, John, Reed, and Michael Faasen, Jennifer Flores, Maralee Csellar, Kathryn Hoffman, and Amie and Kim Jameson, and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Faasen.

Friends received on Sunday, May 10, 2009 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with Rosary at 6:30pm and Wake Service at 7pm at Raymond Funeral Chapel, La Plata, MD.

Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, May 11, 2009 at 11:30am at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Waldorf, MD. Clergy will be the Monsignor Bill Parent. Interment will take place at the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael, Reed, and John Faasen, III, Jeremy Hoffman, Billy McPhaul, and Steven Flores.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department Honor Guard.
