Kenneth Wayne Abbott, "Kenny", 54, of California, MD, passed away on January 9, 2026, at his home. Born on April 13, 1971, in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of Patricia Genevieve Abbott, of California, MD, and the late Lewis Edmund Abbott. Kenny was the loving husband of the late Rebecca Lynn Abbott, whom he married on May 1, 1998, in Leonardtown, MD, and who preceded him in death on June 20, 2019. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Laura Richards (Kyle) of California, MD, his sister, Jennifer Scott (Abbott) of California, MD, and his nephew, Douglas Scott, of California, MD.

Kenny was a lifelong St. Mary's County, MD resident and earned his GED. He was a phone technician for Verizon for 28 years, retiring in September 2025.

In his spare time, Kenny enjoyed fishing, crabbing, kayaking, and music; he was currently learning the guitar. His favorite pastime was spending time with his loved ones. Kenny will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with prayers recited at 7:00 PM, in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky Johnson, Ryan Clarke, Shane Allen, Matthew Clements, Patrick Allen, and Walter Wyne.
