Rhonda Renee Chaney, 58, a lifelong resident of Chesapeake Beach passed away January 7, 2026. She was born August 4, 1967 in Prince Frederick to James Gardner and Gloria Ann (Stallings) King. Rhonda grew up in Chesapeake Beach and graduated from Northern High School in 1985. She married Leslie Chaney on June 5, 1993 and they bought the house right next door to her childhood home where she grew up.
Rhonda enjoyed a successful 38-year career in Acquisition supporting both the Navy and the Air Force. She worked for NAVFAC at the Washington Navy Yard from 1985 – 2019, as a Contracting Officer/Team Lead. She moved to the Air Force, Joint Base Anacostia Bolling (JBAB) in 2019 to support the 11th Contracting Squadron as a Contracting Officer, PKB Emergency Ops/Mechanical Branch Chief until she retired in February 2024. Rhonda's heart was as bright as the Sunshine. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She also loved her "babies", Texi, Cowboy, and Ozzy & Clyde. She loved being a "Dog Mom"! One of Rhonda's favorite things was to host parties or dinners at her house. If family and friends were over, it was guaranteed to be a good time filled with music, kitchen dancing, good food and a few cocktails. Rhonda was often called Betty Crocker or Martha Stewart for her love and skills of cooking, baking, and crafting. She could take the ugliest find from the local thrift store and turn into a beautiful masterpiece. Her favorite past time was "shopping"!! She loved shopping for anything, but especially new shoes, clothes and purses! Her favorite time of day was morning time, catching every sunrise possible down on the boardwalk while getting her steps in! She would take pictures of all the sunrises and the birds and flowers she would see along the way! Her favorite time of year was any day above 80 degrees! Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She loved to decorate her entire house inside and out. Every year, she created a new theme (snowmen, the Grinch, and buffalo plaid to name a few)! She always worked so hard to plan a special Christmas craft day for the family to do together every year. Rhonda always loved her Dallas Cowboys (Hence the name of last pup of 14 years). She loved the rivalry of anyone who was a Redskin fan and was relentless with the heckling when the 2 teams played each other! Rhonda loved to travel and was always ready to pack her suitcase. If you called her and said, "Hey, do you want to go…" She would respond before you could finish asking, "Yes, tell me where to meet you and when and I'll go pack right now"! Rhonda was the most positive and upbeat person you would meet. She was always smiling and happy and had a wonderful contagious energy about her. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her sister Marie "Toni" King of Lothian, brother Mark King and his wife Laura of Charlotte Hall, aunts Pearl Dowell and Pearl Salmon, uncle Willy King and his wife Marsha, niece and nephew Jacob King and Ashley Leonard, her cousin who was like a sister to her Angie Dowell, her best friend who was also like a sister to her Christine Owens, brother in law Lee Chaney and his wife Donna, sisters in law Theresa Bowen, Tina Moore, and Terry Chaney, father in law Venton Lee Chaney, and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
