Jerry Aloysius Plater
October 15, 1962 - December 7, 2025

Jerry Plater, of Mechanicsville, Maryland, passed away on December 7, 2025, at the age of 63. Born on October 15, 1962, he was the beloved son of Spencer Edward Plater Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth Plater (Jenifer).

Jerry spent 15 dedicated years working as a mail handler for the Architect of the Capitol. Outside of his work, Jerry lived life with energy, humor, and heart. In his younger years, he enjoyed running track and playing basketball, and throughout his life he found joy in spending time with his brothers and buddies, sharing drinks, laughter, and unforgettable jokes.

He was preceded in death by his father, Spencer Sr., his brother, Edward Plater and his nephew Skye Brown.

Jerry will be dearly missed by his mother and his children: his son, Tarel Hamilton of Annapolis, Maryland, and his daughter, Tykeia Plater of Mechanicsville, Maryland. He is also survived by his brothers Connie Plater (Karen) of Temple Hills, Maryland, and James Plater (April) of Fort Washington, Maryland; and his sisters Eunice Goldring of Clinton, Maryland, Vanessa Swann (John) of Mechanicsville, Maryland, Sheila Cole (Thomas) of Indian Head, Maryland, Bonnie Meredith (Shawn) of Oxon Hill, Maryland, Tracy Washington (Reginald) of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Faye Ford (Phil) of Charlotte Hall, Maryland. He also leaves behind his cherished grandson, Tarel Hamilton Jr.

Jerry's life will be celebrated with a funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Mechanicsville, Maryland, on Friday, December 19, 2025. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the Mass at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Father Paul Nguyen. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown, Maryland.

Jerry will be remembered for his humor, his warmth, and the deep love he held for his family. His presence will be greatly missed.
