Richard Francis Murphy, Sr. "Dickie", 70 of Benedict, MD died on May 6, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital, Leonardtown, MD.

Born on January 8, 1939 on the Murphy family farm in Benedict, MD, he was the son of the late Edward Columbus Murphy and Mary Cecelia Burch Murphy. Dickie grew up on the family farm and was a lifelong resident of Benedict. He retired in 2000 as a maintenance supervisor from Pepco. He enjoyed gardening, crabbing, cutting grass and waterfowl hunting. Dickie played on many softball teams during his life.

He is survived by former wife, Mary Lee Murphy; his children, daughter, Pam Earnshaw and son-in-law, Billy Keffer, son, Richard F.Murphy, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Annette Murphy, daughter, Darlene Murphy and son-in-law, Greg Davies, son, Michael A. Murphy and daughter-in-law, Dawn Tucker, David Hancock, and Albert Farrell; brothers, Louis A. Murphy, Sr. and Patrick J. Murphy; grandchildren, Tony Davies, Jack Murphy, and Joseph Jewell; fiancée, Doris Johnson, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward C. Murphy, Jr.

Family will receive friends to Celebrate Dickie's life on Friday, May 8, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Ken McDonald officiating. Interment Private.
