Alvin "Sonny" Bernard Bean, Jr. (90), of Solomons, MD, passed away on October 9, 2025. Born on August 15, 1935, in Washington, DC, Sonny was the son of the late Alvin and Mary Bean.

A 1954 graduate of Eastern High School, Sonny enlisted in the U.S. Army at Ft Jackson, South Carolina. Upon completion of his service, he returned to the family-owned business, Al Bean Auto and Truck Repair, on "Eye St." NW Washington D.C. Through a reputation of unwavering integrity, he built the business into a three generation D.C staple.

On April 4, 1959, Sonny married the love of his life, Charlene. They were blessed with four children: Alvin Bean III (Kim) of Deale, MD, Scott Bean (Eileen) of Newburg, MD, Bryan Bean (Trish) of Tampa, FL, and Mary Frances Bailey (Ronnie) of Charlotte Hall, MD.

He was a foundational leader in the Hillcrest Heights, Maryland community. He was invaluable in building Silver Hills Boys and Girls Club into a character developing, sports centered organization. He coached baseball and football at all levels, but his passion was teaching young boys to become men of character. He was an active member of Holy Family Parish.

After retiring in 1997 Sonny transitioned the business to his son Scott, he dedicated his time to fulfilling the needs of underserved in his community. He brought hundreds of tons of food and supplies to local charities such as the Missionaries of Charity, Children's Aid Society, and Lifestyles of Maryland. A devout Catholic, he continued to serve every parish in which he lived. He ensured his children and grandchildren assisted and learned from his example of service to others. He was proud that this legacy continues through his children and grandchildren as exemplified by distinguished military service, exceptional teaching service, youth coaching, scouting, and generational benevolence.

After retirement, he adopted two new passions, travel and golf. He enriched his life and the lives of old and new friends through worldwide adventure and golf excursions. He brought his story telling and sense of humor to every setting, and made new dear friends late into his life.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Lou Gibson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, children, and grandchildren: Justin Bean (Kim), Tiffany Etzell (David), Zachary Bean (Elly), Eric Bean (Chelsea), Taylor Bean (Amanda), Brady Bean (Cynthia), Ryan Bailey (Olivia), Casey Bean, and Kyle Bailey. He is also survived by his nine great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, October 15 from 5PM until 8PM at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., Charlotte Hall, MD.

A Funeral Mass and burial will be held 10AM Thursday October 16 at St. Mary's Piscataway Church, Clinton Maryland.

A Repass Reception, following the burial will be held at the American Legion Hall, 9122 Piscataway Rd, Clinton, MD.
