Sarah "Sally" Estelle Scheible
April 30, 1943 - August 17, 2025

Sarah "Sally" Estelle Scheible, 82, of Ridge, Maryland passed away peacefully, but not without a fight, on August 17, 2025. Her loving family was by her side, holding her hand. Born April 30, 1943, in Leonardtown, Maryland, she was the cherished first-born daughter of the late Joseph Warren Taylor and Alice Marie (Cullison) Taylor.

Sally was a devoted mother and grandmother and a supportive and loving wife. She married Bruce Robert Scheible in a dress she made herself on September 29, 1969, and together they shared 55 exciting and wonderful years of marriage. They built a life together centered on love, family, and community engagement. Scheible's Fishing Center was the joy of their lives, the culmination of their dreams, and a hub of love and laughter for so many.

A graduate of St. Michael's High School, Sally was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and a firm supporter of both Catholic and public education. After high school, Sally went on to earn an associate's degree in business from St. Mary's Junior College, coming within a semester of an undergraduate degree in accounting and finance from the University of Virginia. After working for the State Department in the 1960s, she embraced her role as a restauranteur for many years, owning, managing, and cooking at Scheible's Crab Pot Restaurant in Ridge, Maryland.

She will be remembered for her formidable humor, her ability to make almost anyone feel comfortable in her presence, her political debating skills, and the compassion she showed to everyone she met. Sally was a fierce mentor to young people, particularly the many young women she supported and advised throughout her career. She believed that anyone could do just about anything with enough education and determination, and she loved watching other people succeed, especially her daughter, Ellen Marie.

Sally loved all animals including dogs, cats, cows, and chickens after growing up on a chicken farm. (Her love for chickens is questionable, but anyone who grew up raising chickens understands this). After caring for many pets, including the famous family dog, Sammy, and the super moody cat, Nikita, she fell in love with her current cat, Gracie, whom she absolutely adored. Sally also enjoyed reading pulp fiction by Danielle Steele, drinking a rum and Diet Coke at a beachside bar, racing cars on Route 5, and playing a mean game of Pitch. She was known for many talents, including working a calculator blindfolded with one hand behind her back and ringing a kitchen bell 900 times until a waitress finally emerged to pick up a crab cake dinner. She was also exceptional at yelling at Bruce, who always deserved it.

Sally is survived by her husband, Bruce; daughter, Ellen Scheible (William Selove); granddaughters, Sarah Astrid Selove and Quinn Reid Selove; sisters, Carol Gertrude Kennedy, Joanne Marie Dyson, and Nancy Lee Abell; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
