Ellen loved being with her family. She had fond memories of Wednesday dinners at Merle and Eleanor's, where she spent time with her mother. Ellen shared a special bond with Eleanor and looked forward to her many visits. Her favorite things were baking, decorating for Christmas, and crocheting. It brought her much joy to share her baked goods and crocheted items, including soup bowl holders, dish scrubbies, and blankets, with her friends and family.

Ellen graduated from Leonardtown High School in 1965. Following graduation, she attended Washington D.C. Beauty Academy, where she earned a diploma in Cosmetology in 1966.
