Joseph Augustus "Buddy" Thompson, 84, of Clements, MD, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family and friends on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at his home in Clements, MD.

Buddy was born on February 17, 1941, in Leonardtown, MD, to the late Joseph Augustus Thompson and the late Genevie Agnes Hayden-Thompson. He married the love of his life, Louise Thompson, on October 14, 1961. Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage and raised three sons, Ricky, Scott, and Mark.

Following his service to the National Guard and his time spent as a waterman, Buddy and Louise owned and operated two successful businesses; Buddy's Disposal & Sons and T & T Sweeping & Port-O-Let Services. Despite Buddy losing the love of his life, he continued to run the legacy that they shared together, until eventually making the decision to step aside and allow his son and daughter-in-law to purchase the business.
While owning and operating a successful business, Buddy enjoyed going fishing, travelling the world, servicing 52 years as a member of The Avenue American Legion #0221, and spending time at Abell's Diner with friends. Buddy is survived by his ten grandchildren, J.R., Jenny, Jackie, Crystal, Ashley, Stacey, Brittany, Bobby, JS, and Morganne, and eight great grandchildren, with number nine due in November.

Buddy is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Augustus Thompson, his mother, Genevie Agnes Hayden-Thompson, his six brothers, Ronnie Thompson, Billy Thompson, Carl Thompson (Brenda), and Gene Thompson. He is survived by his three sons, Ricky Thompson (Sissy) of Mechanicsville, MD, Scott Thompson (Patti) of Avenue, MD, and Mark Thompson (Laura) of Hollywood, MD, his brother, Robert Thompson (Laurie) of Leonardtown, MD, and his sister-in-law, Sharon Thompson, of Leonardtown, MD.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with prayers recited at 7:00 PM, in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM, in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Avenue, MD. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Bushwood, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be J.R. Thompson, Chris Thompson, Ronnie Thompson, Joey Thompson, Wayne Nelson, and Buddy Banagan. Honorary pallbearers will be Lewis Armstrong, J.S. Thompson, Morganne Thompson, Sierra Thompson, Nancy Pilkerton, and Denise Hollidge.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Hospice of St. Mary's, the 7th District Volunteer Rescue Squad, and/or A.C.T.S.
