John "Johnny" Roland Bean, 73, of Valley Lee, was sent to his eternal home on February 20, 2025. Born March 2, 1951 in Valley Lee, Maryland, Johnny was the son of the late Helen Genevieve Redman Bean and Joseph Leo Bean. His marriage to Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Bean (Norris) spanned 51 years. During this time, Johnny and Libby built a home and created a lifetime of memories with their two sons, Jason Bean of Leonardtown and Jesse Bean (Ashly) of Leonardtown and their three grandchildren Devon Bean, Kendell Bean, and Jason Bean. Johnny is survived by his brothers George Bean (Kathy, deceased), Andrew Bean, Robert Bean (Diann), and Francis Bean (Gloria) all of Valley Lee, Maryland as well as his sisters Leona Unkle (Bennie) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Gennie Williams (Wayne) of Tall Timbers, Maryland, Joan Sebring (Dick) of Valley Lee, Maryland, and Evelyn Bean of Leonardtown, Maryland. He was preceded in death by five nephews, Joe Parran Nelson, Danny Sebring, David Williams, Joe Bean and Adam Bean; his brothers William Bean, Bernie Bean, David Bean,and Gregory Bean and his sisters, Lucy Bean, Neadurra "Sissy" Hall and Sister Rosalie Bean CSSJ.

As a St. Mary's County Native, Johnny graduated from Great Mills High School, and went on to have a successful career in Firefighting as well as in Planning and Estimating at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. Johnny spent 28 years serving his community as a member of the Second District Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad where he served as Lieutenant, Fire Captain, Engineer, Assistant Fire Chief ,and Fire Chief. His three generation legacy within the fire department carried on with his sons and grandsons. In 1986, Johnny started his business, "John R. Bean Construction & Stuff" which he proudly ran for 39 years. Johnny prided himself on passing on his trade by working alongside his boys Jason and Jesse, his nephews Leo and Joe, Grandsons Devon and Jason, and his paperwork buddy, Kendell. Johnny thoroughly enjoyed surrounding himself with family and friends which included playing pitch, being captain of "The Bean Boys" fishing vessel, hosting gatherings at "The Garage," and watching his grandchildren grow up. Johnny left his mark on Valley Lee and will be remembered for his morning coffee at Russell's, stuffed ham, oyster scalds, and his parties.

The family will receive friends at Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home on Monday March 3, 2025 from 5 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held at Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home on Tuesday March 4, 2025 at 1:00 PM. Serving as pallbearers will be Woody Norris, John Chapman, Leo Bean, Kenny Sebring, Rob Bean, and Devon Bean.
