Robin Hendricks Oertly, 66, of Dunkirk passed away December 17, 2024. She was born August 18, 1958 in Washington, DC to Haywood Love and Shirley (Dorsey) Hendricks. Robin grew up in Duckettown Bowie, moved to South Hill, VA, and later Richmond, VA where she finished high school and graduated early at the age of 16. Robin served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged as staff sergeant in 1994. She later moved back to Bowie and attended Prince George's Community College and later Howard University. Robin met Louis Oertly in 1996 at the 300th Anniversary of the Office of the Sherriff for Prince George's County which led to a 28-year relationship. They were in married in October of 1998 and lived in Chesapeake Beach until moving to Dunkirk in 2021. Robin enjoyed a long career with Prince George's County Government initially working for Prince George's County Department of Corrections before transferring to the Department of Public Works where she became the first female storm drain inspector and learned to drive a pickup truck and push snow. She later transferred to the Department of Public Works and Transportation and retired as Chief of Transit Operations. Following her retirement Robin went to work for VanGo Public Transportation in Charles County for 2 years. Robin also owned and operated Robin's Parties and More, a catering and party planning business she successfully ran for many years. Robin loved genealogy and was the family historian. She also enjoyed crafts, volunteering with various churches and the Boy Scouts of America while her son became an Eagle Scout, something she was extremely proud of him for. Robin will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

Robin is survived by her husband Louis Oertly, children Robert Louis Oertly of Madsion, WI, Thomas William Oertly and his wife April of Chesapeake Beach, and Joseph Paul Oertly and his wife Erin of Ruskin, FL, grandchildren Davis, Carsten, Landon, and Monroe, mother Shirley Hendricks, brothers Haywood Love Hendricks, Jr. and Jonathan Hendricks, niece Toccara McMahand, and numerous other nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her father Haywood Love Hendricks, Sr.

Interment with military honors will take place in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Robin's name can be made to Johns Hopkins Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
