Ritchie B. McGuffin of Huntingtown, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on December 12, 2024. He was born on March 7, 1941, in West Virginia, to C.W. & Ethel McGuffin. He was the youngest of thirteen siblings and the seventh son. After he graduated from Collins High School, he joined the United States Navy. He was eventually assigned to Patuxent River Naval Air Station. His main duty was being the Radioman for his flight crew. In addition, while enlisted, he completed three electronic schools. In May 1966, he was honorably discharged from the Navy and went to work for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company (C&P). He was instrumental in developing the switch that operated the first cell phones in the DC Metro area. He worked for thirty years until retiring from Bell Atlantic Mobile in 1996 (currently known as Verizon Wireless). Ritchie and Bonnie (Bowen) McGuffin were married on December 17, 1966, and lived in Huntingtown, where they have resided for the past fifty-four years. They were blessed with two children, John and Joy.

Ritchie was known for his exceptional ability to work on and fix anything, including cars, motorcycles, televisions, and all things mechanical. In addition, he was a skilled woodworking craftsman. He was a proud and active member and past President of the Calvert County Lions Club for over 35 years. He especially enjoyed participating in Christmas in April and hosting the annual summer picnics at their home. He loved his Baltimore Ravens and enjoyed going to or watching games.

Ritchie is survived by his loving wife Bonnie, son John McGuffin (girlfriend Keri), daughter Joy McCarthy, brother Emory McGuffin of Oak Hill, WV, sister-in-law Terry Bowen, grandchildren Morgan and Ryan McGuffin (mother Michelle), and Cole, Carson and Carly McCarthy. He was preceded in death by his parents C.W. & Ethel McGuffin, father and mother-in-law J. Arthur and Jessie Jo Bowen, brother-in-law Jay Bowen, son-in-law Kris McCarthy, Greg Cameron (Joy's long-time boyfriend) and all other siblings and their spouses.
