Rudolph William Olup, 90 of Benedict, MD died on April 6, 2009 at Calvert Memorial Hospital.
Born on May 4, 1918 in PA, he was the son of the late George and Martha Helms Olup. Mr. Olup was a retired Navy Chief who served during WWII and was a survivor of the sinking of his ship the USS Wasp. After his Navy retirement he was a Burner Service Manager for Besche Oil Company for 20 years. He was a life long member and President and Chief for Benedict VFD, President of Southern MD Firemans ACS, Southern MD Firefighter Hall of Fame, member of Masonic Lodge and La Plata Lodge for 60 years. He was a member of Grace Brethren Church. His enjoyments were playing golf, bowling, boating, cruising on the Bay, and reading. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He took his family twice to Emerald Isle, NC for a week long family reunion. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Margaret Henson Olup. Survived by his loving children, Martha Lynn and husband, Richard Swann, Jeanette Marie and husband, John Williams, Ronald W. and wife, Annie Olup, and Michael J. and Sharon, Olup, sister, Margaret Ake, and brother, John and wife, Sarah Olup, 14 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends to Celebrate Rudolph's Life on Friday April 10, 2009 from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD 20622 where Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Thornley and Jerry Small will be officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
