Robert Anthony Kerr, 72 of Mechanicsville, MD, peacefully passed away on July 24, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Robert was born in New Jersey on December 18, 1951, to Alexander Taylor Kerr and Mildred Agnes Kluber.

His passion for knowledge and books led him to graduate of Fairleigh Dickenson University and to earn a Master's Degree at GW University.

Mr. Kerr devoted his life to service and worker rights having retired from the Seafarers International Union where he successfully worked as a writer and activist.

His passion for equality is reflected by his work with the St. Mary's County Commission on People with Disabilities, his one-term presidency of the Southern Maryland Center for Life and two-term Vice-presidency of the American Council of the Blind of Maryland where he also served as Legislative Director until 2007.

Making sure his legacy would endure the test of time, Mr. Kerr was instrumental in the passage of two bills by the Maryland General Assembly. One that empowers and assists blind and visually impaired people to use voting machines, and a law that bolstered the protections of the use of service animals.

A lover of books, music and fine wine, Robert is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Lisa M. Kerr, son, Lloyd M. Kerr and daughter in law Ana.
