John Louis Kagel, 67, of White Plains, MD, died March 19, 2009.

Mr. Kagel was a general manager for a recycling business for 40 years. He was the Director of Maryland and Delaware Ayrshire Association; active with the Montgomery 4-H for many years; Owner and President of Montgomery County Refuse Company; instrumental in establishing guidelines and procedures for recycling in Montgomery County which influenced the entire state. Served on various Boards and Committees throughout the years to make waste disposal safer for the environment long before "going green" was in style.

Born August 13, 1941, in Elgin, IL, he was the son of the late Louis Henry Kagel and the late Chrystalin Greth Richardson Kagel.

Predeceased by his parents.

Survived by his wife, Gene Mary Kagel of White Plains, MD; sons, John Kagel Sarasota, FL; Kent Kagel of Ft. Myers, FL; daughters, Debbie Ruby of Welcome, MD; Kimberly Smith of Elgin, IL; brothers, Bill Kagel of Blue River, WI; Charles Kagel of Elgin, IL; sister, Judy Kagel of Elgin, IL; five grandchildren.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 25, 2009, 10AM to 11:30AM, at South Potomac Church with a funeral service beginning at 11:30AM. Rev. David Hoffman will officiate.

Interment to be announced at a later date.
