Henry "Hank" Laurence Wegner was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 13, 1937, to Thaddeus and Mary (Ondack) Wegner. (He always said that 13 was his lucky number.) He joined the United States Navy in August 1954 at the age of 17 to see the world. He was later stationed in Solomons, Maryland where he met the love of his life, Mary Linda Williams, and they married on April 3, 1959. They began their life as a military family and had 4 children-: Annette, Larry, Joe, and Michael.

Hank spent most of his military career stationed in Norfolk, Virginia while serving on 10 ships with multiple cruises around the world. He got to see the world and witness major world events during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam Era while he and Mary Linda raised their family and served their Country. Hank was an electrician and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer on April 1, 1977, after 22 ½ years of service. He and Mary Linda moved to Calvert County to build a home and be close to Mary Linda's family. Over the next couple of decades, he worked as a military contractor and other positions where he utilized the skills from his military training.

Hank enjoyed working on cars and could fix most things. He loved classic cars and enjoyed going to car shows and often dreamt of owning and restoring another 1948 Cadillac like his first and favorite car. He was proud of his garage and often helped others with their cars. He loved his family and his Country. He loved all animals and was often called "Saint Francis" by his family. He was always willing to help someone with emergency repairs and often helped elderly friends and relatives. He and Mary Linda enjoyed traveling to ship reunions through the years and went on their dream trip to Hawaii for their 25th wedding anniversary.

Hank was a long-time member of the Optimist Club of Calvert and served for several years on the Board of the ARC of Calvert (now ARC of Southern Maryland). He had many good friends and always said that "Mary Linda and Calvert County were the best thing that happened to the kid from Chicago."

Senior Chief Wegner is survived by Mary Linda Wegner, his wife of 65 years, his children: Mary Annette Wegner, Joseph Wegner, and Michael Wegner. His grandchildren Nathaniel Wegner and Gabriella Wegner and his nephew John Wegner (Denise), Julie Dekker (Kurt) and Christine Reczuch as well as his extensive loving family members in Calvert County who have been a source of love and friendship since marrying Mary Linda.

He is predeceased by his parents, Thaddeus and Mary Wegner, his brother Thaddeus "Ted" Wegner and Wife Julia, brothers Joseph Wegner and Robert Wegner, and his sister Dorothy Reczuch and husband Stanley (Stas) and his son, Robert Laurence Wegner (Larry).

The Wegner family would like to thank all our friends and family for their love and support during the last few years with all of Hank's health issues. We would like to thank Linda Clyburn for her kindness and dedication during these difficult times. Hank looked so forward to Linda's arrival at the house.
