James Otis (Peg) Peggins Jr, 87 formerly of California, MD, died at the Grant County Memorial Hospital at Petersburg,WV Sunday March 8,2009. Mr. Peggins had been residing with his daughter Janice Hinebaugh in Maysville, WV since the death of his wife Joyce on February 27, 2007.
Born August 03, 1921 in the coal mining town of Algoma,WV. He was the son of Mr. James O and Mrs.Flora (Wickline) Peggins. Peg was a long-time resident of St. Mary's County, where he met and married his wife of 56 years Joyce Evelyn Payne. A retired U.S. Navy Senior Chief Gunners Mate he served in both World War II and the Korean war. As a crew member aboard the U.S.S. Nashville during World War II his ship was assigned to Task Force 16, a fleet of Navy ships which escorted the U.S.S. Hornet on its mission with the Jimmy Dolittle squadron to bomb Japan. A long-time member of Patuxent River Assembly of God Church he is survived by 1 sister, Claudine Roumayah of Madison Heights, MI, 3 brothers, Jack of Algoma,WV, Donald of San Francisco, CA. and Gerald of Clawson, MI. four children; James O. Peggins III and John Walter Peggins of Laurel, MD, Janice Hinebaugh of Maysville, WV, and Jeannie Ricketts of Harrison, Arkansas, 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Joyce, brother Harold, sister Dorthy, and grandson, Michael Jason Comstock. Family will receive friends at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650 on Thursday, March 12, 2009 from 12 noon until service time at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Lanny Clark of Patuxent River Assembly of God will officiate.
