Sandra Marie Norris, 65, of Leonardtown, Maryland, passed away on March 27, 2023 at her
home surrounded by her loving family. Sandra was born on June 14, 1957 to the late Robert "Bob" Norris and Doris Elizabeth Hammett Norris, and was the 2nd eldest of seven children. She is preceded in death by her youngest sister, Ethel Norris Visscher and nephew Aaron Edwards. She is survived by her siblings Catherine Johnson of La Plata, MD, Diane Tucker of Mechanicsville, MD, Michael Norris (Nilda) of Alexandria, VA, Mary Carter of Colonial Beach, VA, and Dorothy Wesolowski (Mike) of Waynesville, MO. She was a loving aunt to Tony, Emily, Tristen, Dale, Kimmie, Michael, Sarah, Kelly, Stephen and Casey; great aunt to Violet, Lily and Evana; and special Godmother to Ace and Leilani. Sandra, known as Sandy to those closest to her, grew up in Prince George's County and graduated from Gwynn Park High School in 1974. After a short time, she moved to Frederick, Maryland and became a welder at Canam Steel Corporation and manager at Casa Pizza. She returned to Saint Mary's County after residing in Frederick, Maryland for more than a decade and became a Wastewater Treatment Operator for the Charles County government and reluctantly retired in 2017 from her career at the St. Mary's County Metropolitan Commission (MetCom) due to multiple back surgeries. Two years after retirement, she faced a four-year battle with pancreatic cancer with courage and dignity. Even with her physical struggles, she continued to be a light for others. Sandy was helpful, encouraging and a source of strength for many. As part of the recovery community, Sandy was a sponsor for many newcomers. She was dearly loved with many lifelong friends. Children were especially drawn to her gentle and patient nature. She seemed to be a kid "magnet". She loved fishing, crabbing and spending time outdoors. She was an avid "tinkerer" who never shied away from a challenge and could fix anything. In accordance with Sandy's wishes, her ashes will be spread over her favorite fishing spots and will be used as part of the growing material for a peach tree. A Celebration of Life will be held in June 2023 with more information to follow. |
