Melanie Ann Callis Wahlgren, 34, a lifelong resident of North Beach, MD, died suddenly on February 15, 2009 at her residence. She was born May 16, 1974 in Washington, D.C., and raised in North Beach. She attended Our Lady Star of the Sea School in Solomons, and was a member of the last graduating class at Lorraine Catholic High School in Suitland, Md.

She attended Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, and the College of Southern Maryland, where her main interest of study was in the medical field. She was a member of the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department, Co. 1, where she was an E.M.T and an active volunteer. She was involved in cheerleading and pom squads in her youth, and as a coach as an adult.

She married James L. Wahlgren March 11, 2006, and they lived in North Beach where she was a homemaker, loving wife and mother. Melanie is survived by her husband Jim, sons William and Bryce Callis, her parents Barbara and Warren Callis, Sr., a brother Warren Callis, Jr., a sister Stephanie Richardson, a niece Capri Callis and nephews Alex and Nicholas Callis and Donnie, Dominick, Damian and Dalton Richardson.
