Olive Mae Carr Gingras was born April 27, 1927 to Michael J (1872-1949) and Odelia S (1884-1975) Carr in Homestead Park, PA. The youngest of 3 daughters (Lillian Barrett, 1904-2006 and Louise Burkett 1907-1996), Olive's mom, dad, and sisters nicknamed her "Dolly"; and luckily for her, the name stuck.

Dolly lived on Main Street in Munhall, PA and attended West Mifflin High School. After graduation in the spring of 1945, she went on to study business at Grove City College where she graduated with a Bachelors degree in 1949. Dolly worked for a short while at US Steel in Homestead. In the spring of 1951 she moved to Washington, DC with the promise of employment at National Scientific Laboratories. There she met and married William Phillip Gingras in June, 1953.

The couple lived in Silver Springs, MD where their first son, Scott was born in July 1954. The fledgling family moved to Rockville, MD in 1956, and shortly thereafter, the couple's only daughter, Judy was born in July 1957. Dolly was a fulltime mom and housewife (jargon de jour), and in November 1960, that pesky little Eric poked his head out.

Eventually, after the kids were in high school and college, Dolly worked for WMAL radio in the early and mid 1970's as the personnel manager. She moved to work in the office of the president of ALPA, the Airline Pilots Association in Washington, DC for 12 years until she retired in 1993.

In 1980, after Judy was married and Eric and Scott were away at college, Dolly and Bill snuck out of town and moved to their beautiful new home overlooking the broad expanse of the Chesapeake Bay in Rosehaven, MD. Eventually, the kids found them living it up in the "land of sky-blue waters", and visited frequently with their families for the past 29 years.

In December 2008, Dolly became ill with an undiagnosed neurological condition. She spent most of the last 8 weeks in various hospitals and rehab centers. Her family called and visited her often, and she always kept a bright outlook with a good sense of humor. After being away for over a month, she returned home on Tuesday February 3rd to spend the rest of her life.

Dolly had an idyllic lifestyle—always the distinguished lady with class and poise. She touched many and all who ever knew her were enriched by the experience. She will be missed by all, but especially the loving family who survives her; husband Bill, daughter Judy, sons Eric, his wife Adrienne and Scott, his wife Linda, and her beloved grandchildren—Stosh, Sara, and Carly Fry, Natalie and Angel Gingras, Tucker, Rachael and Hunter White.
