Marilyn Dee Eastwood, wife of Dr. Gerald Eastwood of Lusby, MD passed away Monday, February 2, 2009 at Calvert Memorial Hospital from complications of pancreatic cancer. She was born on May 23, 1935 in Warren, OR to the late Walter and Lois Hagquist of St. Helens, OR.

Gerald and Marilyn were married in St. Helens on August 24, 1957. They settled in Lusby, MD in 1997 after Gerald completed 22 years in the Navy and 16 years on the faculty of the University of Maryland Dental School. They enjoyed travel and the joys of each place where they lived. They had an especially interesting experience while living in Japan for 3 years.

Marilyn graduated from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Or in 1957 and continued to enjoy her profession until becoming ill in 2007. Her special love was pediatrics where she worked the most. As part of her nursing she enjoyed volunteering at the Mission of Mercy Medical Dental Clinic in Reisterstown, MD which she did for several years.

Gerald and Marilyn had 3 children, son Paul (Susan), grandsons Coy, Jack, and Erick, son Michael (Anna), grandchildren Kimberly, Jennifer, Christopher, and Joseph, daughter Mary Kastner (Gary) and grandchildren, Kayla and Cody. She is also survived by her brother James Hagquist (Joann) of Tucson, AR, sister, Karen Olson of St. Helens, OR, brother in law Dr. Robert Eastwood (Cathy) of Spokane, WA, sister in law, Deanna Ramey of Orlando, FL and several nephews and nieces.

She belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington Park, MD, the Southern Maryland Sailing Association, the Patuxent River Sail and Power Squadron, the Solomons Island Yacht Club, and the Calvert Marine Museum. She enjoyed volunteering in the Gift Shop in the Museum as well as at SMILE where she appreciated the many wonderful, dedicated volunteers.

She and Gerald enjoyed cruising the Chesapeake bay in their sailboat and they visited may areas from top to bottom. Her very, very special love was for her children, their spouses, her nine grandchildren and spoiling them as much she could.

The Family will receive friends on Monday, February 9, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Rausch Funeral Home, 20 American Lane, Lusby, MD. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 11 AM in Trinity Lutheran Church, 46707 Shangri La Drive, Lexington Park, MD.

A reception will be held following the service at the Solomons Island Yacht Club, 14604 Solomons Island Road, Solomons, MD. Interment will be on Monday, February 23, 2009 at 11 AM in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington Park, MD, to Pancreatic Cancer at www.pancan.org , or a charity of your choice.
