George Robert Bailey was called home on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at the Charles County Nursing Home in LaPlata, MD.

He was born on November 16, 1925 in Mount Victoria, MD to the late Mary Bailey.

George attended the public schools of Charles County, Maryland. He was a waterman, and cooked for many restaurants in the area including White House, Robertson's and Fin & Claw. In his later years, he worked at Camp St. Charles in Rock Point, MD until his health began to fail.

George was a lively person who enjoyed being with friends, laughing and having lots of fun. Prior to his death, he had the opportunity to spend two weeks with his son, Robert and his family, commenting that it was the best two weeks of his life.

In addition to his mother, he is also preceded in death by his long time companion Joyce A. Fowler. Left to cherish many fond memories is his son, Robert Antonio Powell, daughter-in-law, Clinetta, grandchildren, Joy and Jordan Powell, step-grandchildren, Tiahna, Tarya and Aaron, mother-in-law and close friend, Margaret Powell, brother-in-law, Edward Powell, sister-in-law, Diane Powell, two special nieces who were like daughters, Jacqueline Ford and Latisha Wells, special nephew, William Wells, care givers and best friends, Vincent Thomas and his wife, Alice, close like sons, Arnold Watson and James Cooper, three close friends, Tean Thomas, Marshall and Jack Yates, and a host of other relatives and friends.

His viewing will be held on Thursday, January 29th, 10:00am until time of services 11:00am at Shiloh Community United Methodist Church, 12610 Shiloh Church Road, Newburg, MD. Interment Church Cemetery.
