Joseph Anthony Messina, known as Tony or Buddy, age 79, died January 20, 2009 at Solomons Nursing Center, Solomons, MD. He was born January 15, 1930 in Washington, D.C., where he was raised and attended public school.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954, and earned the National Defense and Navy Occupation Medals. He was formerly married to Genell Capps and Linda Mullins. He lived in College Park, MD for many years, and had also lived in Huntingtown, MD. He was a resident of Solomons Nursing Center for the past year and one half. In his youth he was a professional singer and entertainer. He was later employed in the commerce industry for Don Norman Associates, a government contractor affiliated with the Interstate Commerce Commission. He was also a business machine repairman and service technician. He was a member of Cornerstone Church in Hanover, MD. He enjoyed being a musician and singing, creating stained glass art, drawing and painting, and spending time with his friends amd family. He is survived by daughters Tina L. Messina of Chesapeake Beach, Karen Messina of College Park, MD; a son John Michael "Mike" Messina of Delmont, PA, and grandchildren Crystal Sigler of Delmont and Brian Osbourn of Huntingtown, MD.
