Joy Ann (Deaton) Colman was born March 31, 1954 at Hanscom Air Force Base, Waltham, Mass and, after fighting a fierce battle with glioblastoma, entered into God's loving arms on January 16, 2022. At the time of her death she was a resident of Calvert County Nursing Center, Prince Frederick, MD. She was the daughter of Jason C. Deaton, USAF (Ret) and Zelma M. (Dupuis) Deaton. Joy lived in Japan from 1956 – 1960 when her father was stationed there with the Air Force. Returning to the United States, Joy settled down in Maryland and stayed there for the rest of her life. She was a legal secretary but she gave up her job to care for her mother during her final years. Joy's friends and family fondly remember her fabulous chocolate chip cookies that rivaled Mrs. Fields chocolate chip cookies. We also remember her love of animals, especially her pet dog, Jimmy. She is survived by her son, Michael K. Deaton (Michelle) of Lusby, MD; brother, Michael J. Deaton of Yuma, AZ; sisters, Janet Deaton-Warwick of La Plata, MD and Suzanne Kreisher (Keith) of Bridgeville, DE; nieces Terri S. Ozment (Terry) of Littleton, CO, Angel Deaton of Chandler, AZ, Crystal Deaton of Phoenix, AZ; nephews, Clint Warwick and RW Warwick (Angela) both of La Plata, MD. The family thanks the doctors, nurses and caregivers at Calvert County Nursing Home for their compassionate, loving care of Joy during her final days. In Joy's memory, the family suggests donations be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation, Calvert County Nursing Center, or to the family to help defray funeral expenses.
