Martha "Marty" Barnett, 77 of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on August 19, 2021 at her home, surrounded by loved ones.

Marty was born on December 21, 1943 at Fort Benning, GA to the late Sergeant Major of the Army George W. Dunaway and his wife, Mary (Peck) Henry.

Marty married her loving husband, Michael S. Barnett on February 22, 1978. They spent 43 happy years together and raised three children. Marty was an active member of the community, where she volunteered as an Emergency Medical Technician and later as a Paramedic for over 20 years. She began her volunteer service as part of the OWL Volunteer Fire Department in Woodbridge, VA, and after moving to southern Maryland, continued as part of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad and St. Mary's County Advanced Life Support Unit. Outside of her emergency medical service, Marty was formerly a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary. Marty was known to be an excellent cook and baker, who also enjoyed working with flowers. She was an avid reader of mysteries, thrillers and romance novels. But most of all, Marty enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.

Marty is survived by her husband, Michael S. Barnett, her children; Patrick B. Barnett of Henderson, NV, Jacquelyn T. McCray of Charlotte Hall, MD, and Michael E. Barnett of Madison, MS, her eight grandchildren, and her siblings; Michael H. Dunaway of Las Vegas, NV and Suzanne L. Hunt of Southport, NC. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, George R. Dunaway.

Family will receive friends on Friday, August 27, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with a Funeral Service celebrating her life, led by Deacon Bill Kyte at Brinsfield Funeral Home, located at 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Interment will follow on a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
