Helen S. Mitchell, 90, passed away on December 25, 2008 at Rockville Nursing Home in Rockville, Maryland.
She was born in Fishing Creek, Maryland to Howard and Stella Simmons. She moved to Southern Maryland when she was 18 and married William Nalley in 1936. They had four children and were married for 42 years before Helen became a widow in 1978. She was married to Bill Mitchell from 1985 until his death seven years later. Helen was preceded in death by her daughter Carolyn Goff, daughter-in-law Mary Ellen Nalley, brother Vincent Simmons, and two of her grandchildren, Janice Nalley and Brian Goff. She is survived by son Allan Nalley and his wife Kathleen; son-in-law Jim Goff; son Tom Nalley; and daughter Brenda Feehan and her husband Ed. She was the loving grandmother to 11: Karen Hein, Alicia Gourley, Heather Evans, Jim Goff, Jr., Michael Goff, Bill Nalley, Megan Langhoff, Jennifer Camilleri and Adam Feehan. She is survived by 15 great-grandchildren and her twin sister Rebecca Jarboe of Marietta, Georgia. She will be also missed by the Mitchell family and by her many nephews and nieces. Helen was know for her hospitality and her love of family and friends. She will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. in La Plata, MD. Visitation at the funerla home will be from 4 pm until 8 pm on Tuesday, December 30, 2008. Prayers will be at 7:30 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Church, Chapel Point, MD at 10 am on Wednesday, December 31, 2008. |
