Robert Stevie Lawrence, "Torque Wrench",67, of Avenue, MD passed away on February 19, 2021 in Washington, DC. Born on October 4, 1953 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the loving son of Rosemary Lawrence, and the late Francis McQue Lawrence. Stevie was the loving husband of Anna Gail Guy Lawrence, whom he married on August 3, 1974, in St. Joseph's Catholic Church Morganza, MD. Stevie is survived by his siblings Gwen Tarantola (Mike) of Mechanicsville, MD, Mac Lawrence (Kathy) of Clements, MD, Ida Abell (B.K.) of Mechanicsville, MD, and Tina Graves (Glenn) of Bushwood, MD. He was preceded in death by his sister Brenda Wathen.
He was a lifelong St. Mary's County, MD resident and graduated from Chopticon High School in 1971. Stevie was the Station Chief at the Patuxent River Fire Department for 25 years, retiring in October 2004. He was the owner and operator of Pull & Tug Enterprises in Avenue, MD. Stevie joined the Department in 1992 and served as an Asst. Engineer from 1993 - 2014. He also served the Squad as Installation and Audit Committee Chairman. He was Vice Chair of the Building and Grounds Committee, as well as , the Annual Lawn Mower Races Committee in association with Bowles Farm - the Squads biggest fund raiser. Stevie also served in the Seventh District Vol. Fire Dept. from 1971 - 1985, serving as an Asst. Engineer for 6 years. Stevie was inducted into the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen's Associations Hall of Fame in 2015. Stevie worked for the Patuxent River Naval Air Station Fire Dept. for 25 years retiring as a Supervisory Station Chief with prior service as a Lieutenant and Captain. Stevie was an EVOC Instructor for MFRI for over 20 years." Additionally, the Seventh District Volunteer Fire Department posted about Lawrence's passing. "Stevie was a member of our department for a number of years in the 1970's. Stevie was a great friend of the department and was always there to help us out when needed," the department said on Facebook. "In the picture below, Stevie is using his tow truck from his business Pull and Tug Enterprises, to help us transport our 1951 engine to get restored. We thank Stevie for his service to our community, he will be greatly missed." The family will receive friends on Monday, March 1, 2021 from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM with Fire Department prayers recited at 10:00AM followed by EMS prayers in Holy Angels Catholic Church Avenue, MD where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with Father Stephen Wyble officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery Bushwood, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Ellis, Ronnie Mattingly, Tommy Bowles, Kim Mason, Lee Pilkerton and Billy Guy. Honorary Pallbeaers will be the Seventh District Volunteer Rescue Squad , Patuxent River Fire Department, and Seventh District Volunteer Fire Department.
