Adelaide Virginia Perkins, 89, of La Plata, died November 30, 2008, at Civista Medical Center, La Plata.

Mrs. Perkins has resided in La Plata since the death of her husband of 50 years, John R. Perkins in August 1993. She was employed by Peoples Drug Stores and after retiring enjoyed gardening with her husband in the Hyattsville area where they raised and sold vegetables to the local residents. Since moving to La Plata she has enjoyed spending time at the Clark Senior Center and was a member of the "2 N 1" Club.

Grandma Addie as her great-grandchildren affectionately knew her was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Born December 20, 1918, in Alexandria, VA, she was raised at St. Vincent's Orphanage in Washington, DC. In addition to her husband her five brothers, four sisters and son-in-law David James Snyder preceded her in death.

Her daughter Patriciaann Snyder, her son Iran Perkins and his wife Julia, six grandchildren, Charles Snyder, Kathleen Hodge, Frances Snyder, Stephanie Davis, Lt. J. Christopher Perkins, and Sarah Perkins, ten great-grandchildren, Linda, Charles, David, Chelesea, James, Jackson, Jayden, Mackenzie, Julianna, and J. Christopher, Jr., and five great-great grandchildren, Ryan, Justin, Elizabeth, Haley, and Charles Martin survive her.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 4, at 10AM at Grace Lutheran Church, La Plata, MD. A private burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, MD.
