Lawrence Roy Plant, of Prince Frederick, Maryland passed away on November 3, 2008 in Washington D.C.

Mr. Plant was born August 16, 1937 in St. Paul, Minnesota to the late Lawrence and Viola Belair Plant. He retired from the Air Force as Staff Sergeant, after serving 20 years.

For more than a decade, Larry and Elvira Plant operated an antique store known as" Elvira's Antique Store" at 7th and Bay Ave. in North Beach. Larry known affectionately as "BIG DADDY" was fond of politics and aspired to Lt. Governor's position. The Plants were well known in the antique circles from their participation in Shador Shows in Washington D.C., Baltimore, Thomas Stone School and Tobacco Barns. Larry promoted many shows including Prince Frederick Armory and North Beach Bay Festival.

For Twin Beach Players, Larry offered memorable performances as Scrouge in "A Christmas Carol". Larry was full of Ba Humbug, but his kindness too many will be long remembered.

Larry was the founder of the Mid Chesapeake Bay Kiwanis Club. He served just about every elected or appointed office in that club. He was instrumental in getting the Key Club and Builders Clubs off and running. After serving as club president he went on to be Lt Gov of Division 22 in 1998 He served the Capital District as a Trustee of the Capital District Foundation for a number of years. He was also very involved in the Kiwanis of Calvert Co. serving as Vice President from 2004 to 2008.

Beloved husband of the late Elvira Plant, father of Patrick Plant of Prince Frederick, MD, Birgit Canning of Waldorf, MD and Gerhard Braatz of North Carolina. Grandfather of Matthew J. Braatz and Justin Leo Canning, he is also survived by a sister Raydelle J. Bruentrup and a brother Ed Plant both of Minnesota.

The family will receive friends at the Rausch Funeral Home, 4405 Broomes Island Road, Port Republic, MD on Wednesday November 12, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday November 13, 2008, 11:30 AM, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Prince Frederick, MD. Interment with military honors will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. Pallbearers are Patrick Plant, Matthew Braatz, Justin Canning, John Jackson, Tommy Alata, Chris Goshen and Mac Spenser.
