Sarah Ilene Higgs, 81, of Mechanicsville, MD departed this life on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital, Leonardtown, MD surrounded by her loving family. Sarah was born June 18, 1938 in Laurel, Mississippi. She was the loving daughter of the William Suddith and Vetry Sarah (Roseberry) Suddith. She married the love her life, James C. Higgs in 1986. Together they celebrated over thirty (30) years of marriage. She worked as a stocker for Giant Foods for over thirty (30) years. She enjoyed her job and retired in 2000.

Sarah was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all that she knew. After she retired, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, collecting bears and spending time with her family. Sarah was a wonderful woman who cherished taking care of her grandchildren. As the grandchildren and great-grandchildren surrounded her, she would smile and laugh at their antics. Full of love and laughter, Sarah brought happiness to those around her. To know her was a blessing, to remember her an honor. As the sun beams down through the clouds, know Sarah is rejoicing in her new golden palace, healthy, happy and wishing you peace.

She is survived by her husband, James C. Higgs; children, Vicki Underwood (Leroy) of Charlotte Hall, MD, Susan Underwood (David) of Mechanicsville, MD, Karee L. Tarbox (Matt) of Brandywine, MD, Archie B. Rodgers (Sue) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Chris Warder of Washington, D.C.; and step-children, Maryann Carlton of Port Tobacco, MD, Bonnye Borden (Brad) of Wyoming, and April Higgs of Mechanicsville. She is also survived her fifteen (15) grandchildren; twenty-five (25) great-grandchildren and one brother, William Suddith of Canyon Lake, TX. Sarah is preceded in death by her parents, William Suddith and Vetry Suddith.

Family and friends are invited to Sarah's Life Celebration on Monday, December 30, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Kevin Cullins at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations be made in Sarah's name to Tri-County Animal Shelter, 6707 Animal Shelter Road, Hughesville, MD 20637 or ASPCA. Arrangements by the Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., Charlotte Hall, MD.
