Helen Christine Washington Waring was born April 12, 1935 to the late George and the late Eleanor Washington in Marbury, Maryland. She was the tenth child of eleven siblings. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by siblings, George Washington, Jr., Robert Washington, Walter Washington, Harry Washington, Fern Simmons and Phyllis Woods. Surviving siblings are, Richard Washington, Paul Washington, Curtis Washington and Mary E. Washington Frazier.
Helen attended Pomonkey High School where she met Joseph A. Waring, Jr. and they were married on November 25, 1950, from this union eight children were born. Helen was a homemaker and throughout her later years held several jobs. She was a hard worker and loved and cared for her family. For fifteen years she was a member of the VFW Price Anderson Ladies Auxiliary Post #341. Helen loved to sing with the Interdenominational choir, Travel, Cook, Play Chinese Checkers, Pokeno and Bingo. She also loved to watch her favorite soap opera, "The Young and The Restless", eat Crabs and listen to Gospel music. Some of her favorite's were, This Little Light of Mine, Amazing Grace, I'll Fly Away and One Day At A Time. Helen had a smile that would make you want to stay and talk awhile. Her laugh had a way of filling your heart with joy. On Thursday, October 30, 2008 at the Fort Washington Hospital in Fort Washington, Maryland. God called Helen and she answered the call. We will miss our Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Sister and Friend very much. In addition to her surviving siblings, left to cherish fond memories are her eight children, Patricia Lucas (James), Jerry Waring (Wanda), Juanette Sharpe (Larry), Michelle Penny (James), Michael Waring (Revonna), Melvin Waring (Kathy), Karen Waring and David Waring, eleven grandchildren, Daryl Lucas (Tiffani), Tara Graves (George), Danielle Lucas, James R. Penny, Jr. (Markia), Marcus Penny, Stanley Berry, Nicole Berry, Lynette Berry, Phillip Waring, Angela Waring and Travis Waring, nine great grandchildren: Gervey Leatherberry, Amaya Douglas, DaVaughn Douglas, Adriana Douglas, Rayelle Lee, Ramiro Lee, Daryl Lucas II, Kristin Lucas and Gabrielle Graves and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her Viewing will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Thornton Funeral Home, 3439 Livingston Road, (State Route #227 Pomonkey) Indian Head, Maryland 20640 and on Friday, November 7, 2008 from 10:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 am at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 30 Mattingly Avenue, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.
