Elizabeth "Betty" Rose Wood, 78, of La Plata, MD left this earthly dwelling to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 6, 2019. Betty was the daughter of Norman Aloysius Guy, Sr. and Mary Genevieve Johnson Guy. Betty was married to the love of her life, James Mattingly Wood on May 30, 1960. Betty and Jimmy were married for over 59 beautiful years.

Betty grew up in St. Mary's County, resided in District Heights, MD in 1960 - 1967 and finally settled in La Plata, MD in 1967. Betty was a 1959 graduate of Margaret Brent High School. She loved that her classmates stayed close to each other through the years and enjoyed getting together.

During Betty's career, she worked at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Executive Office of the President (President Kennedy/Johnson administration), the Barley Company, the Charles County States Attorney's Office, Thomas C. Hayden Jr, P.A. Professional Association and the Charles County Circuit Court for 18 years as the Administrative Assistant to the County Administrative Judge.

Betty was a devote catholic and an active member of Sacred Heart Church in La Plata, MD. She was involved with the Ladies Sodality and bible study for many years. She continuously prayed for her family, friends, and anyone she heard was in need of the Lord's graces.

Betty was a lovingly devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. Family and friends meant so much to Betty. She loved spending lots of quality time with her family and friends making memories. The family reunions, holiday gatherings, and all of the shared life events meant the world to Betty.

Betty was an avid golfer. She was an owner and member of Wicomico Shores Yacht & Country Club. She enjoyed the weekly golf rounds and numerous golf trips with so many wonderful friends. Betty loved to bake from scratch and was known for her Pound, Hawaiian and German Chocolate cakes. She always found a reason to celebrate someone or something so she could bake something special.

After her retirement in 2006, Betty fulfilled a dream of learning to quilt. She meticulously sewed many beautiful quilts and quilted items that won ribbons at the Charles County Fairs. She looked forward to getting together with the ladies of the Tuesday Night Quilters in Bel Alton, MD and the St. Mary's County Quilters.

Betty is survived by her husband James Wood; her children Cindy Guy (Howie) and Tracey Wood; her grandchildren Billy Guy, III (Lauren), Danielle Hughes (Sean), and Brandon Wood (Melissa); her great grand-child Trevor Guy; her siblings Jackie Guy (Peggy), Phyllis Bowling, and sister-in-law Roberta Guy; wonderful in-laws and many precious nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Norman and Genevieve Guy; siblings Norman Guy Jr., William "Billy" Guy and Baby Guy.

Betty wanted everyone to know that she loved them and that she was so richly blessed in her life by the Lord.
