Jean Dorn Smith, 84, died September 15, 2008 at her residence in Owings.

She was born May 30, 1924 in Martinsburg, WV, and moved with her family to Washington, D.C. as a child. She attended public school and graduated from Central High School in the District.

She married Walter Bildstein and they lived in Washington where she worked as a bookkeeper at a grocery store. She was later divorced from Mr. Bildstein, and in 1950 began a career with the National Security Agency on Nebraska Avenue in the District.

She married Arthur E. Smith November 22, 1962, and they lived in Hyattsville and Laurel, and moved to Owings in 1975. She retired from N.S.A. as a project analyst at Ft. Meade, MD in 1975 after a twenty five year career with the Federal Government.

She enjoyed boating and fishing in her youth, and loved traveling, shopping, dining out and playing cards with friends. She loved spending time with family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur in 1999, her son Robert William Bildstein, her parents Melvin and Gertrude Crosson Dorn, and her brother Melvin Dorn.

She is survived by her daughter Donna B. Smith and son-in-law William Thomas Smith, grandson Jeffrey Thomas Smith and his wife Heidi, and greatgrandchildren Eden, Jacob and Lily Smith.
