"Spanky" Athey of Lusby, MD died on September 5, 2008 at Washington Hospital Center. He was born on October 5, 1935 in Laurel, MD to the late Edward Melvin and Eunice Athey.

He is survived by his loving wife Betsy Athey. Beloved father of Eunice Athey of Lusby, MD; Tony Athey of Rockville, MD; Troy Athey of Hagerstown, MD and the late Eddie Athey, he is also survived by five grandchildren.
