Mr. Simms was an Operating Engineer for 28 years with Local #639 and #77 International Operating Engineers. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Issue, MD. He loved motorcycles, boats, crabbing, fishing, dancing, and hunting, especially Canadian Geese and ducks. He was a waterman and he had played softball in his youth.

He was son of the late Ralph Lomax Simms and the late Beatrice Anna Jameson Simms.

He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. Dunkin Simms.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mary Ann Williams of Welcome, MD, two sons, Ralph L. (Tracey) Simms, Jr. of Gilbert, SC and Donald R. (Candance) Simms of Waldorf, MD, six grandchildren, Ralph III, Jennifer, Nicki, Amber, Alex, and Danielle, and five cousins, Joan and Jimmy Simms, Pat Hessey, Bub and Danny Stine.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2008 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with prayers at 7pm at Raymond Funeral Chapel, La Plata, MD.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Monday, August 11, 2008 at 11am at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Issue, MD. Clergy will be the Father David Beaubein.

Interment will take place at Holy Ghost Catholic Church Cemetery, Issue MD. Pallbearers will be Ralph Simms, Jr., Donald Simms, Ralph Simm III, Jimmy Wink, Leslie Springer, and Bobby Presley.
