Joseph Harold Butler Sr. went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday July 26, 2008 at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland. Harold was born in Philadelphia on April 10, 1942 to the late Joseph Earl and Mary Elsie Butler.
He received his education in the Charles County Public School system but had to drop out early to help raise his siblings. In 1988 he received his high school diploma while working at the Maryland State Highway Administration in LaPlata, Md. He was a hard worker and dedicated to his family. He first became employed for himself as a dumptruck driver then employed with Southern Maryland Tires and eventually retiring from the Maryland State Highway Administration. In 1963 he married the love of his life Mary Yvonne Edelen whom he adored dearly. From this union they were blessed with six beautiful children. Harold was a die hard Redskins fan and enjoyed working on lawn mowres. Harold also enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends. But what gave him the most fulfillment was spending time with his children and grandchildren especially grandson Jaden and not to mention watching the Washington Redskins defeat the Dallas Cowboys. Harold was preceded in his death by his parents Mary Elsie and Joseph Earl; his brother Ralph Butler, his sister Louise Edelen and his son John Butler. Harold leaves to cherish and celebrate his memories, wife, Mary, four sons Joseph Jr. (Danielle) Darold Sr. (Crystal) Lawrence (Tiana) Sidney Sr. (Takima) and one daughter Joan Short; 10 grandchildren, Joseph III, Glenn, Joshua, Darold Jr., Darious, Kiarra, Jonathan, Kayne, Sidney Jr. and Jaden; Two step-grandchildren, Destinee, and Mikey; Three Sisters Audrey Cutchember, Peggy Butler, and Debbie Price; Four brothers Terry, Dewitt, Dale and Thomas Butler; Two aunts Agnes Yates and Betty Barnes and one Uncle Leo Butler; Sister-in-law Martha Dorsey and two brother-in-laws Joseph Edelen and Calvin Edelen; special Friends Cliff Johnson, Walter Willette and Joseph Thomas, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
