Mr. Payne was a Manager for United Parcel Service in Burtonsville, MD for 26 years. He was a member of the VFW in Bel Alton, the American Legion Post in La Plata, and the Moose Lodge in Mechanicsville, MD. He was the co-founder of the Mac Jameson Memorial Golf Tournament. He enjoyed card playing, RV-ing, and was a NASCAR Race fan.

He was son of the late Mason Dice Payne and the late Marian Singhas Payne.

He was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Marlene Payne.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine S. Payne, two daughters, Elizabeth M. (Stephen) Heath of Waldorf, Md., and Samantha L. (Daniel) Bowling of Mechanicsville, Md., one sister, Karen P. Wilt of Virginia, and five grandchildren, Erin, Hunter, Sean, Emily, and Alexis.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, July 25, 2008 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm with American Legion and V.F.W. Services to follow Funeral Service at 7pm at Raymond Funeral Chapel, La Plata, MD.

Interment will take place on Monday, July 28, 2008 at 11am at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. Clergy will be the Rev. James Matchette. Pallbearers will be the United States Army Honor Guard.
