Aloysius Bowling Gardiner, 73, of Williamsburg died May 22, 2008. He was born in Waldorf, MD on August 9, 1934 and graduated from Notre Dame High School. He joined the United States Marine Corps and in 1954 he was sent to Korea. At the end of the war, he was sent to Japan and then he was on independent duty serving in El Toro, CA and Portland, OR. He was sent to Vietnam and from there to Headquarters Marine Corp. His last tour of duty was in Puerto Rico.
Mr. Gardiner moved to Hampton, VA and worked at the Newport News Shipbuilding for 23 years and then retired to Williamsburg. Mr. Gardiner enjoyed bowling and was a member of St. Bede Catholic Church. Mr. Gardiner is survived by his wife of 47 years Laura June Gardiner; daughter and son-in-law Jeanne and Johnnie Bowman and grandchildren Sam and Emma. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Adrian P. Jr., James Elbert, Robert, Richard and Leo Gardiner and his sister Jean Gardiner Wardlow. A Memorial Service will be held at 9:00 AM Thursday, June 12, 2008 at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA with an inurnment to follow at 2:00 PM at Maryland Veteran's Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD with full military honors.
