Sadie Mae Sipe, 81, died on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at her home in Huntingtown.
A life-long Calvert County resident, she was born on August 15, 1926 in Prince Frederick to Martin and Katie Elizabeth Fowler Brightwell. She attended public schools and was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church for many years. She loved spending time with her family, shopping for bargains at yard sales and dollar stores, gardening and canning. She especially liked tending her flower garden that included a snow ball bush, a large red-rose bush, chick & hens plants and cultivating portulaca, a Mexican rose. She enjoyed word-seek puzzles and tabloid magazines, listening to bluegrass and country music. While she was often strong willed and outspoken, she was incredibly kind hearted and would help anyone she met. Sadie oversaw a large family including her daughter Deborah Michelle (Donald) Howlin of Chantilly, VA; and her sons, William Nelson Sipe of Huntingtown; Charles Edward (Linda) Sipe, Sr. of Chantilly, VA; Roger Lee Sipe of Lothian; Donald Ray (Mary) Sipe of Pittsburgh, PA; Glenn Allen (Darla'Ray) Sipe I of Lothian; and Brian Keith (Deana) Sipe, Sr. of Dunkirk; her 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren and her sisters Alma Louise Parsons of Dryden, VA and Elizabeth K. Moffett of Desota, MO. A visitation was held on Thursday, May 15 at the Rausch Funeral Home in Owings. The funeral service, officiated by the Reverend Rick Hancock of Dunkirk Baptist Church was held on Friday, May 16 at 12:00 noon. Burial followed at Southern Memorial Gardens in Dunkirk. Her pallbearers were Glenn Sipe I; Glenn Sipe II; Frank Sipe,; Brian Sipe, Sr.; Brian Sipe Jr.; and Joe Sipe.
