Blass, Susanne Schultheis
Birth: Thursday, February 19, 1931 in Walldorf, Hessen, Germany
Residence: Mechanicsville, Maryland
Death: Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the age of 84
Susanne Schultheis Blass died on October 22, 2015 at the age of 84 in her home in Mechanicsville, Maryland. She was born in Walldorf, Hessen, Germany February 19, 1931 of Alfons Schultheis of Lauter, Ober Bayern, Germany and Susanne Cezanne Schultheis.

After 8 years of schooling she apprenticed in the blouse making trade, worked as a mothers-helper in Middlesex, England and served in the U.S. Air Force Base Exchange at Rhein-Main Airbase, Germany.

Married in Walldorf in 1955 to then Airman First Class, James M. Blass, she bore four children, Patricia and Martin in Germany and Christine and Stephen in Prince Georges County, Maryland. Her children gave her seven grandchildren, Daniel, Aaron, Matthew, Kenneth, Ethan, Andrea and Hannah. They all loved to visit Oma. There are now four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Keith, Bennett and Brooks.

She provided a beautiful home with love and good food. Her love of plants and flowers filled the home with more plants than one could count. A small orange tree was moved in and out of the house for many years. The small oranges were made into a tasty marmalade many times. Her home was always the best place to eat. She could make a feast in what seemed minutes. It was really planning but no one realized it. Sue worked hard to make her home clean, bright and beautiful. Once an Amish neighbor said, "She moves and works like the devil is behind her." No, just love.

How can almost 60 years as a homemaker, mother and wife be displayed in words? She was the pillar that tied her family together. She was always there. Her children would call for recipes or cooking directions. She wielded a mean paintbrush in the home. Her husband, Jim, called her his 'zündkerze' (spark-plug). She gave of herself and almost never complained. She learned another culture and language and became a proud voting citizen of the United States of America.

She is predeceased by her sister Johanna K. V. Makepeace of Florida who died in 2012.

In addition to those mentioned she also leaves daughters-in-law Cindy Parthree Blass, Allison Bohle of Mechanicsville, MD and sons-in-law Craig R. Balderson of Charlotte Hall, MD, Teddy (TJ) Holcomb of Patriot, Indiana, special friend H. Dolores Jones Amman Kisselbach, her sister's family in Virginia and cousins in Germany, as well as many friends and neighbors.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM and a Life Celebration Gathering from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, and MD. 20622
