Margaretta Augustine (Rita) Gilmer of La Plata, Maryland, formerly of Indian Head, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at her home where she lived with her daughter. She was 90 years old.
Born April 23, 1925 in Monongahela, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Lena Ducoli and the late John Augustine. During World War II, Rita worked at C & K boxing rations for the war effort. She was a Propellant Worker at N.O.S. in Indian Head for ten years. She was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and a member of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). She enjoyed baking cookies at Christmas time, reading Christian liturgy and devotions, but most of all, spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry F. Gilmer, and four brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her daughters Dee Stoner and her husband Art of Fredericksburg, VA, Becky Sammons and her husband Mike of Eden, MD, and Lynne Price and her husband O'Brien of La Plata, MD; her sister, Antoniette Panseri of New Eagle, PA; 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 23 from 2PM to 4PM and from 6PM to 8PM with Rosary at 3PM and Wake Service at 7PM at Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 24 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary's Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646 beginning at 10AM. Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD. Pallbearers are Dave Sammons, Jason Sammons, Randy Davis, Bryan Blankenship, Jeff Windsor, Rusty Gill and Glen Gragasin.
