Rene Apel, of Waldorf, Maryland died on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, MD. He was 68 years old. Born on May 30, 1947 in Neunkirchen/Saar Germany, he was the son of the late Annemarie Kruse and Edgar Karl Hugo Apel.
Mr. Apel was a butcher by trade in Germany before coming to America; then a Jack-Of-All-Trades including HVAC, building houses, providing a variety of home improvements, worked as a Home Improvement Contractor, a diesel mechanic, a Hatz Diesel Representative, Energy Auditor, an Asbestos Inspector and Management, did refrigeration and non-electrical repairs for the Amish and Mennonites, a heavy equipment operator, assisted with the building of the German School of Washington, under the direction of the Bundesbaudirektion and American Architect Aram Normandin, He also served in the German Air Force and as a civilian in the U. S. Air Force. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, making European style sausage and meats, raising Rottweilers, and spending time with his dog, "Buddy". In addition to his parents, Mr. Apel was preceded in death by his son Thomas Apel; his sister Brigitte Frost; his brother Uwe Apel. He is survived by his wife Jan Apel; his son Kevin Apel in Hagerstown, MD; his daughter Alison Apel of Ashburn, VA; his sister Renate Pepin of Sandusky, Ohio; his brother Edgar Apel of Neunkirchen/Saar Germany. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 1PM until time for service to begin at 3PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A. 5635 Washington Avenue La Plata, MD 20646.
