Samuel "Sam" Strickland, 91, of Waldorf, MD passed in peace Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015.
A celebration of his life and visitation will be held Friday, September 11, 2015. Friends and Family may attend from 4:00-7:00 PM at Huntt Funeral Home, 3035 Old Washington Rd., Waldorf MD. The funeral service will be held at Huntt Funeral Home on September 12, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Neil Grobler officiating, burial to immediately follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD. Sam was born June 25, 1925 in Robinson County, NC to the late Clifton and Lora Strickland. He grew up on a tobacco farm in Mullins, SC where he grew prize sweet potatoes. Sam served in WWII as a gunners mate for the United States Navy. He then married on Dec 4, 1946 to Margaret K. Pratt. After Sam's honorable discharge from the Navy, he was employed as a general foreman in the carpentry trade. He has been retired for many years. He was an avid fisherman and spent many hours on the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. He also enjoyed playing poker with his friends and spending time with his family. Sam is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret; his son, James Strickland and his wife, Mary Strickland; hisdaughter, Samantha Bailey and her husband, Kyle Bailey; son-in-law, Eddie Viering; eight grandchildren; 11great-grandchildren; and sister, Katherine Smith and her husband, Dan Smith of Aberdeen, MD. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Cliffton and Lora; daughter, Loradeen Viering; two brothers, Dan Strickland and JC Strickland; and two sisters, Betty Merritt and Geraldine Flowers. Pallbearers will be TJ Worthington, Erik Bailey, James Strickland, Joseph Christman, Joseph Blochowicz, Francis Brawner Jr., Dan Smith and Tyler York. Arrangements provided by Huntt Funeral Home. |
