Russell Lawrence McCassie, 72, of Marbury died April 11, 2008, at the University of Maryland Hospital. Mr. McCassie was an electrical engineer with Walter Reed Hospital. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 1712 and DAV and was an avid golfer. He was an Air Force veteran.
Born Nov. 17, 1935, in Erving, Mass., he was the son of late Elbert W. McCassie and the late Lena M. McCassie, son of the late Elbert W. McCassie and the late Lena M. McCassie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald McCassie. He is survived by his wife, Mary "Fran" McCassie of Marbury; son, Michael McCassie; stepson, Steven Hall; daughter, Janet Bryan; stepdaughter, Donna Cobb; brother, Alfred McCassie; and grandchildren, Kaitlyn McCassie, Alexis McCassie, Logan McCassie, Braden McCassie, Abigail Cobb, Garrett Cobb, Helen Hall, Vincent Hall, and Kyle Makinen. Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, La Plata, where a life celebration will be held at 11:30 am, Friday, April 18, 2008. The Rev. Eric Darr will officiate. Burial will take place at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham. Pallbearers will be Steven Hall, John Cobb, Michael McCassie, Jospeh Essex, Thomas Castellano, and Wayne Talbot. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
