Ada Lou Birch, 82, of California, MD, died Saturday, August 1, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 26, 1932 in Great Mills, MD to the late William Michael Stone, Sr. and Mary Catherine Cullison Stone and raised by her adopted parents Lewis T. and Nettie Clarke from age 5.
As a young mother, Ada stayed busy raising her children on a small farm. She was a homemaker, a hair dresser, and wife. She volunteered many hours at Little Flower School so that her children could attend parochial school. Later in life, Ada was a rural mail carrier for Lexington Park Post Office. She was a volunteer alongside of her husband supporting Knights of Columbus and St. Vincent DePaul. One of her favorite volunteer pursuits was a Senior Companion that brought her lifetime friends. Ada is survived by seven children, Raymond T. "Ray" Birch, Jr. (Linda) of Louisville, KY, William Randall "Randy" Birch (Janice) of Champlain, VA, Gayle Dean (Paul Ellis), of California, MD, Judy Free (Willie) of Clements, MD, Nettie "Lou Lou" Love (Tommy Grove) of Mechanicsville, MD, Janet Jenkins (Buddy) of Gates, NC, Cheryl Rogers (Don) of Bardstown, KY and two daughters in law Agnes Birch and Bertie Birch. She is also survived by a sister, Betty Vallandingham of Waldorf, MD and a brother, John Stone (Nancy) of Atlanta, GA; 19 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Raymond T. Birch; two sons, Lewis T. and Joseph C. Birch; two grandsons, Jason Free and Benjamin Birch and two brothers, Joseph Stone and William Michael Stone, Jr. and one sister Mary Veronica Burch. Family will receive friends for Ada's Life Celebration on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with prayers at 7:00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Jerry Gamrot on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Face Catholic Church, 20408 Point Lookout Road, Great Mills, MD 20634. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Cassidey Adewumi (grandson-in-law), Zachary Free (grandson), Eric Pulliam (grandson), Nathan Pulliam (grandson), Winfred Jenkins, Jr. (son-in-law) and Josh Howe (grandson-in-law).
