Naomi Hyndshaw Rigby, of La Plata, Maryland died on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata. She was 88 years old.
Born on December 10, 1926 in Lopatcong, New Jersey she was the daughter of the late Naomi Danner Hyndshaw and the late Joseph Robert Hyndshaw Sr. Mrs. Rigby graduated from high school and attended Trinity College. She not only worked as a homemaker and mom, but was employed at the FBI, the Naval Research Lab and the Federal Credit Union. While with the FBI, Mrs. Rigby was a fingerprint specialist and competed on the FBI Rifle Team. Being a very devout Catholic, she attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Mt. Carmel both in La Plata. Mrs. Rigby was a member of the Third Order Franciscan, Sacred Heart Choir and Sodality, and was very active with her church. She enjoyed art, knitting, playing games, being on the computer, genealogy, rooting for her favorite teams, the Washington Senators, the New York Yankees and the Washington Redskins. In her early years, Mrs. Rigby enjoyed playing softball and had completed her ground school education for her pilot's license. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughters Colleen Erin Rigby and Margaret Southard; her grandson Brian; her sister Ruth Slover; her brothers Joseph Hyndshaw Jr., William Hyndshaw and Bernard Hyndshaw. Mrs. Rigby is survived by her husband Philip G. Rigby Sr.; her children Sharon Miller and her husband Bruce, Nonie Whiting and her husband John, Philip G. Rigby Jr. and his wife Nancy, Patrick F. Rigby and his wife Deborah, Joseph R. Rigby and his wife Cathy, Timothy A. Rigby and his wife Trina; her grandchildren Michael J. Wright, Christine Gass, Meghan Whiting, Erin Miller, Philip Rigby III, Thomas Rigby and William Rigby, Jason Southard, Mandy Dean, Patrick Rigby Jr., Kimberly Rinaldo, Rebekah Rigby, and Eric Rigby; her great grandchildren Sarah, Joshua, Matthew, Alexis, Danny Jr., Madison, Damien, Gabriel, Aidan, Nolan, Lincoln, Luke, Lynn and Tristan. Visitation on Thursday, April 9, 2015 from 2PM to 4PM and from 6Pm to 8PM with Prayers at 7PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A. 5635 Washington Avenue La Plata, MD 20646. Mass will be offered at 10AM on Friday, April 10, 2015 at the Mt Carmel Monastery 5678 Mt Carmel Road La Plata, MD 20646. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Rigby's grandsons. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt Carmel Monastery, 5678 Mt Carmel Road La Plata, MD 20646.
