Carl Russell Steinhauser, Sr., 64, of Newburg, MD died peacefully on February 16, 2015, at his home after an eight-year struggle with Multiple Myeloma cancer. He was born on March 12, 1950 in La Plata, MD, to Otto "Tojo" Steinhauser and the late Madolyn I. (Cleary) Steinhauser.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Denise, sons, CJ and Jimmy, daughter-in-law, Angela, grandchildren, Carter and Callie and brother, Michael Wayne Steinhauser, Sr.

A graduate from Pomonkey High School in 1968. He was a life-long member of Marbury Baptist Church and elected Deacon in 2009. Carl was a member of the 7th District Volunteer Fire Department where he was awarded Fireman of the Year by the Greater Waldorf Jaycees in 1972-1973. Carl proudly wore Badge 52 while employed as a police officer and Criminal Investigation Division Detective with the Charles County Sheriff's Department. He was awarded Policeman of the Year by the J. F. Kennedy Council in 1974.

Upon his departure from the Sheriff's Department in 1980, he was owner and operator of Smittys' Lounge and the Atlantis Nite Club. Being the Entrepreneur he was, he then formed the construction company, Charles County Builders', Inc., to frame houses and do remodeling work. This then led to performing excavation, concrete and demolition work for the federal government until he retired in 2012.

Carl loved Charles County, and he was a leader in the community. He served as President of the McDonough High School Athletic Boosters where the results of his leadership and team work made the "dream" of constructing a fully equipped concession stand, Athletic Field House and Press Box a reality. In 2003 he was recognized for his contribution by the Charles County Commissioners for the 17th Annual "Most Beautiful People Volunteer Award".

He volunteered several years as a Coach with the Little League and Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball. He taught classes on "Blueprint Reading" and "Contracting to Build Your Own Home" at the Community College of Southern Maryland. He was owner and operator of Steinhauser Transportation, Inc., and was employed over 20 years by Charles County Public Schools as a bus and snow removal contractor. During the summer season he had a side business for pool water delivery service.

Upon building his own home on his farm in Newburg, he decided to try farming and established Steinhauser Investments, LLC Turf Farm. When he had spare time, he enjoyed good food, especially ice cream, and having "fellowship" with family and friends. He especially loved being "Grandaddy" to Carter James and Callie Rae.
