Michael Tyrone Cheney, Sr., 53, departed this life on October 23, 2014 at his home in Waldorf, Maryland.

Affectionately known as "Mikey", he was born March 15, 1961 in Cheverly, MD, to Conlon and the late Timothy E. Cheney. The second of five children, Mikey graduated from Crossland Senior High School and in 1979 entered the United States Army and later joined the United States Marine Corps where he finished his military career. While serving his country he received the Army Service Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, Expert Badge Rifle M16, Expert Badge Pistol 45 Caliber and Sharpshooter Badge Hand Grenade.

A hard worker, Mikey was a dedicated employee of the Prince George's Public School System for many years.

Committed to his family and friends, there was nothing Mikey wouldn't do to lend a hand to those in need. Proud of his family, Mikey would drive for miles to move his niece into college or "roll up" his sleeves to support a family business. He loved standing along the sideline to watch his grandson play football or in the audience to watch his granddaughter's recital. Simply put, Mikey loved his family!

Known by his signature big smile and dimples, Mikey had many interests some of which were cooking, playing chess, attending church with his family, watching Westerns and "A Solider's Story" many, many times, but most of all…Mikey loved to dance! His unconditional love for his family, genuine laugh and story telling will truly be missed by those that knew and loved him so dear.

Michael leaves to cherish his memory his wife Renee Jeffries Cheney; his mother, Conlon Harvell; his children, Michael Cheney, Jr. and Jessica Cheney; step-children, Martina Jeffries Arnold (Michael) and Darnell Jeffries, Jr.; Sisters, Evelyn Adams (Gerald) and Carol Newman (Karl); Brothers, Patrick Cheney and Wayne Cheney (Rayco); Step-Brothers, Herbert Harvell, Jr. (Anise), George L.
