The Southern Maryland Tennis and Education Foundation (SMTEF) is a non-profit organization which focuses on encouraging all people, regardless of race, gender, social and economic background, to play tennis. Scholarships are available for low-income participants. Kristi Tredway, president and director of tennis, is a former professional tennis player who now makes Leonardtown her home. She is also St. Mary's County's only USPTA-certified resident professional who is actively coaching. If you want a tennis coach with championship training who is also very nurturing and wants each individual to enjoy the game, this is the place.

St. Mary's County Tennis Association is a non-profit organization promoting the growth of tennis in St. Mary's County. The SMCTA offers USTA League Tennis play and recreational tennis for adults and juniors. The SMCTA is the only chartered association of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) in St. Mary’s County.
